The May meeting of the GMB Northants Community Branch took place on Thursday the 30th May 2024 at 7pm on Zoom

Extraordinary amount of daily correspondence from the Labour Party.

Charity Walk – Homeless.
Labour Research – affiliation agreed.
Wortley Hall, update.
Region – vacancies in the Southwest.
International Transport Workers – Dockers dispute.
Nicaragua – updates on campaigns.
Corby Pride – update on event.

Invoice for Corby Pride – paid.
International Transport Workers – update.
CEC – results. Our preferred candidate, Colin Gunter elected.

Donation for GMB full Regional Organiser (son) bone marrow cancer. – Agreed £xxx donation.

Secretary’s Report

Pride update – details on the website. 22nd June – Coronation Park. Leaving from the Cube at 12 noon. Secretary to attend.
Election update. Agreed to invite candidate back for an update ‘on the doors’.
Learning Week – report on my activities at the event. Raffle prizes. Book tokens.
Gordon – donation to Read Easy - £xx
Pat – donation on remaining vouchers – Corby Pride – Secretary to arrange.
Workplace Representative – issue on Honorarium payment. Decision of the branch taken not to authorise payment.

Website activity (GA4) for last 30 days: we had 150 (-73) website visits (sessions) by 127 (-41) people (users)

WhatsApp Group has 40 (+1) members
The May Email Newsletter was sent out on Thursday 23rd May to 1,647 members (May members list) and has been opened by 723 members, a 44% opening rate
X / Twitter: 810 Followers. Last 28 days: Tweets viewed (impressions) 79 (-74%)
Facebook: 384 Followers. Last 28 days: Posts seen (reach) 762 (-49%

Equality Officers Report

Pat reported on the meeting she had attended for Retired Members Association in Nottingham. Issues raised about digital poverty. Becoming a key issue for the elderly.
Pat was thanked for a full and comprehensive report on a full range of equality issues relevant to the branch and our union.
A comprehensive debate was held about the value of retired members in the union and how much recognition they should have at a constitutional level to affect ‘change’.

Youth Officers Report

Verena reported on survey outcomes and how the branch respond to feedback.. Agreed for this to be put on the website and get out to young members. Secretary suggested a branch forum for young members before the summer ends. Possibly August, at a venue to be agreed and report given back to the next meeting. Secretary to discuss with Verena.
