Following the postponement of the Women Chainmakers Festival because of the General Election date, please find information relating to the rearranged date Sunday 15th September 2024.
The festival celebrates women, who in 1910 went on strike to secure the first minimum wage and GMB always support this important festival - not only because the union these women and Mary MacArthur (who led the strike) belonged to - the NFWW is part of our GMB family, merging on 1st January 1921 but because it is the only festival to celebrate women Trade unionists throughout Europe.
It's a great family day, with re-enactments of the fight for fair pay and a banner parade through the very streets where Mary stood and rallied workers and where the workers themselves lived and worked making small link chains.
