In its annual review of state pension provision amongst developed nations, the OECD has ranked the UK 32nd out of 34 countries, with only Mexico and Chile slightly worse off.

Demonstration against Cuts to Corby Children's Centres

A demonstration is taking place Saturday, 2nd April 2016

The Demo starts at 10am from outside The Cube in Corby and it is in protest at the proposed cuts to NCC Children's centres of 25% of the budget.

38 degrees are petitioning Northamptonshire County Council to stop their proposed inequitable cuts of 25% to all Corby children's centre budgets.

Summary of the branch meeting held on 24.02.16

The minutes of the last meeting were agreed to be a true record.

It was agreed to make a donation to the Jam Detached Youth Work Initiative in Corby

The secretary has started the arrangement for this year’s Workers Memorial Day event. Letters have gone to various unions for support. Tom Beattie will speak, a request has gone to Labour Behind the Label to provide a speaker. Youth Brass 2000 have been asked if they could do a turn.

A cheque had been presented to the Corby Food Bank at a cake sale to raise funds. Debbie said that £600 had been raised which is excellent and she passed on their thanks to the branch.. It was agreed that the branch should support the other food banks in the county. It was agreed that we donate £50 per quarter to each food bank by standing order. There are eight food banks.

Branch finances remain healthy

Traffic on the website is improving.

Management at Kier in Corby seem to be sure that they will get a year’s extension on the current contract. There are lots of grievances and a couple of disciplinary being processed at the moment. Rachelle said that she is spending a lot of her time on site.

The meeting closed at 7.50pm.

Our campaign just EXPLODED - The People's NHS

Last week, the government were caught out. After years of denying that the NHS would be threatned by TTIP, new legal advice showed otherwise.

The story exploded. It was in newspapers, online and all over social media. Every politician in the country saw it. And now, other campaign groups are coming on board.

38 Degrees, one of the biggest campaign groups in the UK, are now working on this too. Together their members have sent tens of thousands of letters to MPs demanding action to save the NHS from TTIP. You can join in here.

Taking part in the 38 Degrees action matters. It will show the government how many people worry about this, wherever they live and however they vote.

And imagine how it would look from the goverment's perspecitive. First, People's NHS waded in and made this is an issue. Then it was in the newspapers and online. Now one of the biggest groups in the country is taking up arms.

We're hitting the government harder than ever. Let's keep up the momentum. Write a letter to your MP today, with 38 Degrees.
