GMB Northants are delighted to support Green Patch, part of Groundwork. GMB Northants Branch member Maggie Don can be seen here presenting a cheque for £200 to Simon Mutsaar, Ground Works Northants organiser and green patch volunteers. The Green Patch is a community allotment project based on the Grange estate in Kettering, run by Groundwork Northamptonshire. In partnership with Kettering Borough Council and Northamptonshire County Council, they run a variety of different provisions for children and adults including holiday and after school clubs, volunteer days, and alternative education sessions. We grow affordable fresh fruit and vegetables and sell fresh eggs laid by our on site chickens and ducks. There are many features to the site including poly tunnels, raised beds, wildlife pond and area, natural play, orchard, green hut and toilet.

GMB has accused Kier of blacklisting agency workers who have been stopped from working on Kier Street Scene Services contract in Corby because they raised a protective disclosure through the grievance process for unlawful deductions of wages and parity pay. This has happened as there is a further hearing in the High Court in London on 14 July seeking compensation for GMB members blacklisted by construction employers including Kier. The Oakley Rangers takes a positive approach to community building through the energy and excitement of young people. Each Saturday for the last eight years the young people have made ‘Rockschool’ music with FREE guidance from qualified teachers; Paul Balmer and Cllr Judy Caine. The young people ‘payback’ to the community by monthly litter picks and seasonal tree planting in their local area. Paul Balmer chair of the Oakley Vale Rangers has been made ‘BBC Music Day 2015’ ‘Unsung Hero’ – for leading this project . The project is funded by Oakley Vale Community Association and donations like this from GMB Northants. GMB Northants One of the retired members of the GMB Northants Community Branch recently attended the National Pensioners Convention Parliament in Blackpool.
