All Refugees Welcome Here!Britain rightly welcomes refugees fleeing war and oppression in the Ukraine. But it's a very different story when brown and black people are fleeing equally oppressive situations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen or Palestine. On this UN day against racism, we celebrate the fight of one refugee, Muhammad Idrish campaigning for the right to stay in the UK. We celebrate his powerful, union backed campaign with Banner's latest video ballad- a tribute to all those fleeing oppression, regardless of where they are fleeing from! Here to Fight Here to Stay!Message from War on Want: Just weeks after Amnesty International’s in-depth report on Israel’s apartheid system — and whilst recognising the strength of economic sanctions to pressure Russia to end its invasion of Ukraine -- the UK government is choosing to increase its material support for Israel’s occupation and apartheid regime.
The Labour Party will soon start it's process to select candidates for the next General Election.
GMB members in workplaces across the country have been central to the UKs recovery from this pandemic. From care workers and NHS heroes, to school staff and office workers; GMB members deserve recognition and thanks from those in charge in Government. Too often though the political process can seem distant from the realities in our workplaces and communities. Dear friends,
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, and other Nobel Peace Prize Laureates have launched a historic call to reject war and nuclear weapons. Now they are asking Avaaz and citizens around the world to join them in protecting our planet. Dear sisters, brothers, and comrades, As you would know, P&O Ferries sacked 800 seafarers on Thursday morning over a pre-recorded Zoom call. The brutal sacking was carried out with just 30 minutes notice. These 800 workers were hard working, loyal and committed employees who do not deserve such disgraceful and unconscionable treatment. This behaviour, overseen by DP World who are the owners of P&O, sets a dangerous precedent that we cannot accept. The March meeting of the GMB Northants Community Branch will be on Wednesday the 30th March 2022 at 7pm on Zoom

Ukraine’s call for a new Nuremberg-style tribunal to hold Putin and his cronies personally accountable for the international crime of aggression is gaining momentum. Let's add a million voices to put Putin on trial, and Avaaz will work with prominent international lawyers to deliver our call to all key governments. Every voice matters – sign in one click and share with everyone!
On Thursday 24th March 2022 at 7pm the branch will hold an informal meeting where we will be joined by Eugene, who recently spoke at a Ukraine event held in Corby, he doesn't purport to be a political analyst on what's happening in Ukraine, but like so many, his Ukrainian citizen family is impacted by the devastation and destruction of their homeland. The meeting will be held on zoom and all branch members are welcome to attend. The Zoom meeting link will be on our WhatsApp Group, in the monthly members email and available on request from the branch secretary.
