![]() Can I take this opportunity to wish our members, their family and friends a very happy New Year. Reflecting on the passing year 2024, for me personally, it has been one of active work in the field of representing and advising members and in preparing for the General Election in July 2024. The result was a crushing defeat of the Conservative party and the return of the first Labour Government in 14 years, leaving the political landscape very different to what it was in January 2024. The Employment Rights Bill that is now making its way through the UK Parliament.
The Bill is a huge first step in delivering the New Deal for Working People, and GMB are now involved with consultations and the Parliamentary process to ensure we’re doing the work to get the details of the legislation right. GMB Union have produced this short video with former GMB Wilko workers sharing their stories. Watch Below On Wednesday the 12th June 2024 at GMB Union Congress, branch members joined the march and demo at ASDA in Bournemouth to protest against the asset stripping of the company by the owners and significant reduction in hours for workers.

GMB Northants Community Branch were pleased to again host a Workers Memorial Day event on Saturday the 27th April 2024 at 11am beside the Steel Workers Statue at James Ashworth VC Square in Corby to mark Workers Memorial Day 2024. The event was presented by Alan Irwin, Branch Secretary of GMB Northants, with speakers: Rachelle Wilkins, Senior Regional Organiser of the GMB Midlands, Lee Baron, Prospective Labour Party Parliamentary Candidate for Corby and East Northants and Alan Davis, National Officer Community Union.
