TUC Says It’s not right so many East Midlands workers struggle to feed their families

Commenting on today’s (Monday) Living Wage Foundation figures which show that there are 423,000 workers in the East Midlands earning under the real Living Wage.

TUC Midlands Regional Secretary Lee Barron said:

“People who work for a living ought to earn a decent living. It’s not right that so many people here in the East Midlands don’t earn enough to cover basic living costs like food for their families or money for rent and bills.

“And many of those struggling to get by will be the key workers getting us through this crisis – such as carers, supermarket staff and delivery drivers.

“The prime minister promised to ‘level up’ Britain. Ministers must start by working with unions to ‘level up’ pay and conditions across the country, including here in the East Midlands.”

Nationally, the Foundation revealed that there are over 5.5 million workers living below the real Living Wage.

*****MEETING UPDATE **** Unfortunately Hope Not Hate, don't have an available speaker for this meeting, but they will come to a future meeting. Our catch up meeting will still go ahead at 7pm on Wednesday the 11th November on Zoom.

GMB Northants Community Branch will be holding an informal catch up meeting for all branch members on the Wednesday the 11th November at 7pm on Zoom, when we will be joined by Hope Not Hate who will be giving a short talk.

This is an informal meeting and it would be good to see some new faces of branch members at the meeting

Zoom Meeting Guidance

GMB Northants was holding its meetings in Corby Northampton, but has been using the Zoom Video Meetings software for both branch and informal catch-up meetings in 2020.

This presents a chance for branch members who couldn't get to Corby to attend meetings without having to travel.

The branch has 2500 members, however attendance at meetings has been around a dozen or so people, so it would be good to see some new faces. There is no expectation on attendees to speak, you are welcome to just observe if you wish and we are a friendly group
