This week, thousands of delegates from around the world are attending the COP 28 climate summit in the United Arab Emirates, where the ITF and other unions are calling for a workers-led just transition.
A just transition puts workers at the centre of decision makings on their future. However, the United Arab Emirates – which is hosting COP 28 – has no independent trade unions and does not recognise the right of workers to collective bargaining.
We are calling on Emirates Airline, which thousands of COP delegates are using to attend the climate summit, to establish just transition committees, with elected worker representatives so the interests of workers are protected.
