GMB Northants Community Branch will be holding an election for branch officers and committee members at the June Branch meeting on Wednesday the 30th June 2021 at 7pm
Branch elections are held every 4 years and the branch would normally have had elections in June 2020, but because of the impact of coronavirus they were postponed until 2021
Our branch secretary Gordon Glassford has served the branch for 19 years and wishes to retire, so he will not be standing for election again.
Branch officers are elected by each GMB branch and each branch will have a president, secretary, equality officer, race officer, youth officer and two auditors and a committee of no less than nine members. The president, secretary, equality officer and youth officer will all be members of the committee. (rule 35.3)
All branch officers, and the branch committee, will be elected at the meeting in June every four years. Nominations can be made at any of the three meetings on 31st March, 28th April and 26th May 2021. If no nominations are received for a post at these meetings, only then can nominations can be made at the June meeting. (rule 35.7)
It should be noted that these post holders are lay member appointments. They are not employed by GMB but work on behalf of the union to provide advice and support to members in their branch.

The term of office will be for three years to June 2024. The normal term is four years, but elections were delayed by a year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

As this is a large branch with 2600 members and is financially active, we help support nine foodbanks in Northants, make various charitable donations, it is time consuming.
We hold ten branch meetings a year and the branch secretary must make a commitment to attend all of them, take minutes and carry out any decisions made. She or he should also have a working knowledge of Excel and Word.
Nominations for all officers and committee members will be taken in the March, April and May meetings. If more than one member is nominated for any position then there will be an election at the June meeting.
