Here we are sharing details of Labour's new training programme to increase diversity among councillors. It was launched yesterday and aims to provide Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic members with the support and training to stand in local elections in 2024 and 2025.

‘People Like Me’ training programme:
We’re thrilled to announce that applications are now open for ‘People Like Me’ – the Labour Party’s training programme committed to increasing diversity among local councillors.
We know that it’s important that elected representatives are reflective of the communities they serve.
The People Like Me programme will identify, support, train and coach members who are Black, Asian or from another ethnic minority with the aim of supporting them to stand in local elections in 2024 and 2025, and hopefully getting elected as Labour Councillors. It will also provide networking opportunities across the organisation for these candidates.
If you are a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic member aspiring to be a Labour candidate in next May’s elections, make sure to submit your application for People Like Me before Friday 25 August:

Likewise, if you know someone who would be an ideal fit for the programme, please do encourage them to apply.
Labour councils and councillors have stepped up for their communities throughout the cost of living crisis.
This year’s results, our best in over a decade, really go to show that more and more people are looking to Labour to deliver the change they need.
