Retirement of Branch Secretary Gordon Glassford

Firstly, it is an honour and a privilege to be elected as our new Branch Secretary of GMB Northants Community Branch. 

Over the years I have worked with many unions, including the GMB in the field of trade union education, delivering education and training at national and international level. It is the activists that I have met and worked with that I have the highest respect, their dedication and commitment is the lifeblood of our movement.

​Gordon Glassford is such a person! I have known Gordon for a lot longer than he has served as our Branch Secretary. His dedication and commitment cannot be expressed in just a few words and so I won’t attempt to quantify that service here and indeed, I don’t think Gordon would appreciate the attention.

I know I speak for all our members when I say, thank you for your unstinting loyalty to the GMB in your capacity as our Branch Secretary, spanning 19 years from 2002 to 2021 and indeed to our great trade union movement. I know Gordon will still be there to support the branch with his wisdom and guidance as an active member and someone who we can call upon as we approach a new future with the GMB.
