Summary of the branch meeting held on 30.10.19
Two members have been nominated to attend the GMB Activity Weekend in Hull in February.
It was agreed to re-affiliate to the Labour Research Dept, give donations to Hull Paint and Engineering branch if their dispute is still ongoing and the Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign.
The secretary gave a report on the general secretary hustings he had attended with Natalie Newby. Although all members had been informed more than once this had been the response.
Region had sponsored a table for the Corby and East Northants CLP fund raising dinner. Five, including the secretary had attended. I know many had good reasons not to go but turning down a free dinner?
It was agreed to contact region to enquire about the possibility of splitting the secretary and treasurer roles at the branch elections in June when the secretary is not standing.
Jackie was standing in the Commercial Services section in the Central Executive Committee elections. She hoped all present would vote for her.
Social Media: Website, facebook and twitter were all attracting more interest than the sector averages also email openings were above average at 32%.
Martyn had represented a member who had been assaulted twice at work and as a result will be unable to work in the future. He managed to get a decent pay off which the member was happy with. Unfortunately the member wasn’t in the GMB when he was assaulted but Martyn believes he will get some compensation.
There is growing concern about the amount of sexual harassment in universities. As always it is those at the bottom who suffer the most. This should be a good area for recruitment. The GMB should be at the forefront in protecting these workers.
Matalan: it seems that the new employees won’t start until the new year. The strike at the Skelmersdale depot is over.
Accuma: The pay claim is ongoing.
