Summary of the branch meeting held on 24.04.19
The secretary had received an email concerning a webinar on the menopause being run by the TUC. This had been emailed out to women members.
We have been invited to nominate a delegate to the 2019 Hazards conference. The secretary will email it out to reps.
The education department is going to run a health and safety course. This will also be sent out to reps.
Secretary’s Report: Arrangements for Workers Memorial Day have gone quite well. The buffet will be in the corridor outside the council chamber as the members room will be in use. (This isn’t as bad as it sounds). Corby silver band will play for us, as last year. Ian Cameron and Benita Hewitt will entertain us with a song. There will be five speakers, more than usual. The forecast is bad so the meeting will be held indoors again.
Tye Nokashere: Jackie welcomed Tye, regional equalities officer, to the meeting. Tye spoke on the way the regional forum worked, the issue of modern slavery, helping reps to deal with problems members might have such as gender identity and disability which can often remain hidden. It was agreed that as the branch isn’t given information on sexual orientation, disabilities and race among members that we should arrange an equalities audit with the aim of starting a branch equalities forum. We also agreed we should set up a meeting to discuss the issue of modern slavery, this could possibly be an open meeting. We thanked Tye for his excellent contribution. There had been a presentation at the regional forum by Friends and Bredrin which is a prostate cancer charity. They are doing a sponsored bike ride in July. It was agreed to donate £200.
Clare Pavitt has been elected as the labour party prospective parliamentary candidate for Kettering. She was congratulated by the branch. She also gave her apologies but she will not be able to attend union congress this year.
Ross Armour was nominated to be secretary to Corby CLP and Martyn Reuby was nominated as treasurer.
Matt Reay was elected as youth officer
