Summary of the branch meeting held on 30.07.14
Richard Oliver, Regional Political Officer, can’t attend the meeting in August in Northampton. It was agreed to re- schedule the meeting to October. The meeting will now take place on Thursday, October 9th at 7.30 in the Northampton Working Mens Club, sheep Street, Northampton.
It was agreed to put the website on a more professional basis and pay Adrian Grover a regular amount for his work. He has suggested that we set up a Facebook page and a Twitter account. It was felt that this was a good idea and the secretary will meet with him.
It was agreed to sponsor Kingswood Juniors FC again for £350. It didn’t go too well last season so we are looking for an improvement.
There was a discussion about the union political fund which is the subject of a ballot at the moment. Some were unhappy with money going to the labour party as the last government had let working people down. Others pointed out that not all the money goes to the labour party and we need the fund to mount campaigns against government policies or to put pressure on the labour party to adopt policies which help working people. The secretary will write to the regional political officer for more details about what the fund is used for.
The LRD Law at Work book is now free online to all members, go to: www.lrdpublications.org.uk Then enter username: gmb and password: wtem89.

Ray gave a councillors report from Corby Borough Council: A speaker had given a talk to the council about dementia which had been well received. Ray will give details to the secretary with a view to someone giving a talk to future branch meeting. Council meetings can now be viewed online (not live) through the council website. www.corby.gov.uk. He is now lead member for the finance committee.
Youth Brass 2000, which the branch supports, has won a national competition but we have had no details from them.
We have booked the Core at the Corby Cube for next year’s Workers Memorial Day. So we will have somewhere to go if it rains again.
Brian asked if the secretary has had a reply from the union pensions officer re reports that the local government pension scheme is in trouble. The secretary has and the reports are untrue. He will forward the response.
Meeting Closed at 8.00pm.
